Announcement:
(posted 7/13/10) Dear Friends in Astronomy: Following last year’s successful Hartness House Workshop related to the history of the telescope, we are continuing with another. The Workshop in Lunar Morphology will present basic information about the history and geology of the Moon and how we have come to understand it. The Workshop will be Thursday, August 5th, 2010, at the Hartness House Inn in Springfield, Vermont. The 75th Stellafane Convention will be following immediately afterwards, also in Springfield. Note that the speakers at the workshop include Dr. Charles Wood, the accomplished lunar scientist who for a decade has authored the regular lunar column in Sky & Telescope magazine. Chuck is also the author of The Modern Moon: A Personal View, the excellent and important book that introduces observers to a modern understanding of what’s being seen when observing the Moon. Please click HERE to open the attached PDF file for additional information about the Workshop, the many well-known expert speakers who will be present, and registration information. If you have questions feel free to send e-mail to the undersigned. The 2010 Hartness House Workshop is sponsored jointly by the Springfield Telescope Makers, the Hartness House Inn, and the Antique Telescope Society. Proceeds from the event will help fund a badly needed replacement furnace for the Porter-Hartness Museum of Telescope Making that is operated by the Springfield Telescopes Makers at the Hartness House Inn. --John W.
